Car-T therapy in India : what you need to know

Iam Dr.Bharat Patodiya CAR-T therapy is indeed an exciting advancement in oncology, but as you rightly pointed out, it's still in its early stages in India. I’d like to add some insights for patients considering this treatment option:

1. Eligibility for CAR-T: It’s crucial to have a detailed evaluation with an oncologist who has experience with CAR-T therapy. They’ll assess whether your cancer type and overall health make you a suitable candidate. Availability in India is largely limited to blood cancers at the moment.

2. Treatment Abroad: Traveling overseas for CAR-T therapy can be complex. Beyond treatment costs, you’ll also need to account for follow-up care, which is just as crucial in managing potential side effects from CAR-T infusions. Discuss this thoroughly with your oncologist before making decisions.

3. Importing CAR-T Therapy Alerts: While importing CAR-T therapy is possible, regulatory formalities to ensure quality and safety can be long and complicated. Having a team familiar with these processes is essential.

At Pi Cancer Care, in Hyderabad, we emphasize patient-centered treatment and are actively keeping track of advancements in CAR-T therapy. While we’re not currently administering CAR-T treatment in-house, we support patients through evaluation and guidance on accessing this therapy, whether in India or abroad. Feel free to reach out if you'd like more information.

I understand the challenges this brings, but it is heartening to see such promising progress reaching more countries. Wishing everyone on their journey the very best.
